The membership reflects the diversity of groups supporting the production of decent, low-cost housing, and includes nonprofit housing organizations, community advocacy organizations ,local government officials and housing advocates.

The California Coalition of Rural Housing advocates for affordable housing before legislative and regulatory bodies, provides technical and organizational assistance to community groups and nonprofit agencies and educates the public on housing issues. The coalition participates actively at all governmental levels to achieve policies for the production and preservation of affordable housing in California.

California Coalition for Rural Housing Project (CCRHP)
The California Coalition for Rural Housing Project (CCRHP) was created in 1980 as a separate nonprofit organization with the goal of educating and mobilizing the public on low-income housing conditions. The CCRHP project achieves these goals by training community leaders and community advocacy organizations on low-income housing issues, organizing and supporting local affordable housing coalitions and providing educational materials for use by housing advocates. Since the 1960?s, nonprofit housing agencies have produced more than 20,000 low-cost apartments and single-family homes for needy families, the elderly and farm workers. The California Coalition for Rural Housing Project is a statewide organization with membership reflecting the diversity of groups supporting the production of decent low-income housing and includes community advocacy organizations, local government officials and housing advocates.

Rural California Internship Program for Students of Color
In 1998 CCRHP project announced the creation of Rural California's first Internship Program that was designed to attract people of color to the affordable housing development industry. The goal of the program is to increase the diversity of affordable housing developers working in rural California by introducing students of color to the field and provide training opportunities through a structured, paid intership program. The first Rural California Internship Program for Students of Color was successfully coordinated between California Coalition for Rural Housing Project staff, The Bank of America Community Development Bank Board of Advisors, and the UC Davis department of Human and Community Development.

Students completing their junior year in college were recruited from all over the state to work in non-profit housing organizations encompassing rural agencies from northern, central, and southern California. The applicant process for interns and host agencies was extremely competitive, and only nine students were chosen to participate in this year?s program. The goal of the program is to train and introduce students to the affordable housing industry and provide them with internships at agencies that would offer invaluable experience in affordable housing development.

The creation of this internship program demonstrates the participating non-profit agencies? commitment of increasing the diversity in the affordable housing field. In addition, this program was designed so that the people working in community-based non-profit organizations might reflect more accurately, the population of residents generally served.
