AMY HOGUE-PALACIOS
BIOGRAPHY

Working for the benefit of others since she was barely three-years old, Amy Palacios has been an asset and comfort to those less fortunate. Amy has a lot of experience with affordable housing issues. While in junior high school, she was chosen to participate in a 10-week missionary camp-project serving rural areas in Florida and Ohio where she assisted in building self-help homes for six extremely poor families. Amy has a very positive attitude and feels that she is very fortunate, although she too, according to statistics, comes from a disadvantaged background. She feels that she is privileged because of her biracial, bicultural background. Some people say she should have problems with identity, however, Amy says that her ethnicity complements her desire and sincerity to help others. She stated that she was always determined to graduate from college and overcame numerous adversities to make her dream a reality. Her peers shay she is extremely community-oriented and compassionate. Many of her friends and mentors call her a "born" leader. A few of Amy's many volunteer endeavors are: Habitat for Humanity,
Good Samaritan House, Salvation Army, Emergency Food Banks, and tutoring elementary school children. Amy's collegiate activities involve participation in the Faculty Mentor Program, she is a member of the University Student Union Board and served as a peer advisor for one of the federal educational equity programs on campus Currently, Amy serves as the President of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.,at CSU Stanislaus. She also holds the distiction of being the founder of the sorority at that campus.

Some comments from her professors: "Amy is consistently well prepared for class,
attentive and participatory" (Dr. Agnes Riedmann)
"Amy is mature and skilled in
her approach to problem solving" (Dr. Fred Edmondson)Amy says the reason she
applied for this internship is to obtain the skills to assist in improving people's
quality of life.
